D. Pedro de Meneses, 5th Lord of Cantanhede ("Senhor de Cantanhede"), was given the title of 1st Count of Cantanhede ("Senhor de Cantanhede"), as a reward for his participation in the Batalha do Touro, in 1476, alongside D. Afonso V and the future king D. João II.
The city of Cantanhede received the charter from D. Manuel I, king of Portugal, in 1514. At that time, the king gave the Meneses Family full control of the region. Meneses made a notorious contribution to the development of the region, promoting agriculture and proving the great potential of these lands.
Committed to paying tribute to the dignified lineage of the Counts of Cantanhede and to its important role in the region and in the history of Portugal, Adega de Cantanhede obtained the necessary authorization from its descendants to launch this brand, which has a vast portfolio with wines and sparkling wines with high quality.
