D. Pedro de Meneses, 5th Lord of Cantanhede ("Senhor de Cantanhede"), was given the title of 1st Count of Cantanhede ("Senhor de Cantanhede"), as a reward for his participation in the Batalha do Touro, in 1476, alongside D. Afonso V and the future king D. João II.
The city of Cantanhede received the charter from D. Manuel I, king of Portugal, in 1514. At that time, the king gave the Meneses Family full control of the region. The contribution of the Meneses to the development of the region was notorious, promoting agriculture, including viticulture, for which these lands have always been recognized a great potential.
Committed to paying tribute to the dignified lineage of the Counts of Cantanhede and to its important role in the region and in the history of Portugal, Adega de Cantanhede obtained the necessary authorization from its descendants to launch this brand, which has a vast portfolio with wines and sparkling wines with high quality.
